Mercedes has taught masterclasses in Mexico with the Marcus Printup Quintet (see above clip for a sample), at the University with Scranton with DIVA, as well as in public schools and summer camps. She has also taught private lessons extensively and has worked for schools of music. Mercedes currently substitute teaches at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College program.
Mercedes has studied with some of the most brilliant artists in the business, including Bunky Green, Donny McCaslin, Rich Perry, Phil Markowitz, John Riley in addition to some of the best artist/educators in the field, including Justin DiCiccio, Chris Rosenberg, and many more. She has also attended workshops taught by the great Ingrid Jensen, Geri Allen, Linda Oh, Mark Gross, Jay Anderson, Dick Oatts, Bruce Williams, Ellen Rowe, Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, Christian McBride, Jeff Clayton, and many more.

Mercedes loves teaching fundamental techniques of the instrument, concepts, composition, improvisation, and much more. She approaches each student as a total individual and customizes lesson plans to fit their unique learning style and needs.
